Since childhood, I had the “Saiyan” blood running through my veins. I don’t even remember how many times I tried to “transform” like Goku or attacked my neighbors and friends with “Kamehameha”.

Anyway, years went by and I got really busy with my life. But since I religiously watch and follow several anime series on CCable TV, I always wonder if there’s ever going to be a better show than DBZ (Dragon Ball Z).

Here, I’m going to explain some major reasons why I couldn’t find any anime series as entertaining as DBZ. But before I start, you know about its remastered version,; Dragon Ball Z Kai, right? If you plan to watch this anime again, I’d suggest you watch it because the fillers are less and the quality is extremely good.

Now, let me explain why I believe there’s no better anime than Dragon Ball Z.

Goku-Vegeta Duo:

Unarguably, Goku is the protagonist in DBZ. But if you ask me, I’d choose Vegeta over him any day.

It’s because Vegeta was as powerful as Goku but importantly, he was a “Saiyan Prince”. Although Vegeta’s initial objective was to become the most powerful warrior in the universe, which eventually meant killing Goku, he gradually let go of his plans.

Having said that, the love-hate relationship between Goku and Vegeta is rare in Shonen anime.

They’d be always on each other side, but would never confess how much they care for each other. And not to forget how both push each other, for instance, training in a time chamber with extreme gravity levels to become stronger.

The Role of Side-Characters:

It’s scary to imagine what would’ve happened if Gohan didn’t jump in to fight and defeat Cell. Or, if it wasn’t for Picollo, who could’ve trained Gohan and helped him become a Super Saiyan?

Well, it’s a reality that Goku and Vegeta always steal the limelight in DBZ.

But, if you closely watch the show closely, you’d know that both of them heavily rely on the side characters. Be it to find the Dragon Balls to summon Shenron,; tThe “Eternal Dragon,” to just buy enough time, so Goku or Vegeta could recover, side characters are significantly important in the anime series.

Hateful Villains:

Starting from the Saiyan warriors who didn’t want to be challenged, to Majin Buu controlled by Babidi, there’s no shortage of blood-lusty villains in DBZ. As a DBZ fan, I wouldn’t be ashamed to admit that some villains, like Majin Buu or Cell, were quite stronger than Goku or Vegeta.

I believe it’s something that makes an anime more entertaining. For instance, Goku, Vegeta, and Picollo were arguably the strongest fighters against Cell. And, people often forget that after thrashing all three of them, Cell lost a significant chunk of his powers and as a result, got defeated by Gohan.

Also, while I don’t believe that some villains like Androids made sense in the series, they surely gave us epic fight moments, which I’ll discuss next.

Insane Fights:

It’s a fact that drama and action are key parts of any Shonen anime series and DBZ is full of them. One thing I like the most about DBZ is how frequently major characters like Goku and Vegeta increase their power levels.

And, with that increase, they’re sure to transform into another Super Saiyan stage and unlock a new range of techniques and attacks.

Now, combining iconic attacks like Goku’s Kamehameha or Vegeta’s Final Flash with fierce villains is no less than a treat for the eyes. Starting from Frieza where Goku defeated him with a Spirit Bomb to Gohan’s very own version of Kamehameha in the Cell Saga, there is no shortage of epic attacks and insane fights in DBZ.

Before wrapping up, another factor popped up in my mind. It was DBZ that opened new possibilities for villains to attack the Earth. And, even after all these years, DBZ stands out as the primary reason for the franchise’s longevity.

But having said that, I still believe that newer Dragon Ball shows seasons are at the same level as DBZ.
